Create a search phrase using AND, OR, or NOT.

Find ALL of the words: 

• poverty AND children AND education
• "social media" AND teens

Find ANY of the words:

• cancer OR neoplasm OR tumor
• "death penalty" OR "capital punishment"

EXCLUDE results with a particular word:

• "Harry Potter" NOT film
• "social media" NOT Facebook

Use quote marks to search for exact phrases.

• "code of ethics"
• "Harry Potter"
• "New York"

Try using different words.

• swine flu, swine influenza, H1N1, etc.
• cancer, neoplasm, tumor, etc.

Check your spelling.

If Summon gives you too many choices, it may be easier to search an individual database. The databases listed below include articles on many different topics.

Some databases focus on a specific subject area such as business, education, science, medicine, etc.

• To see a complete list of the databases that are available, click the Online Databases (A-Z List) link below.
• Once you have the Online Databases page open, click All Subjects button to see a drop-down list of subjects.
• Click a subject area to view a list of databases.

The username and password to access databases from off campus is similar to what you use to access the PCC campus portal (myPittCC) and Moodle. For the username, use the first part of your myPittCC email address only. DO NOT include @my.pittcc.edu. The password is exactly the same as what you use to log in to the campus portal. Generic logins are available to community residents with PCC library cards, and others who are enrolled in or are affiliated with PCC programs and continuing education courses.
