What is a Doula?

DONA International’s primary function is to provide excellent doula education and certification to a diverse population of doulas world-wide. DONA International promotes the highest quality perinatal support for birthing mothers and their families by setting the standard for doula education and training, and by advocating the research-based benefits of doula care.

The International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) is a professional organization that supports educators and health care professionals who believe in freedom to make decisions based on knowledge of alternatives in family-centered maternity and newborn care

Mobilizing African American Mothers through Empowerment (MAAME) will empower Black, Indigenous, and other Birthing People of color to navigate systems and mobilize to offer resources, services, and support for holistic maternal health, wellness, sustainable communities, and economic advancement.

The NBDA® connects Black (BIPOC) birthing families with Black (BIPOC) Doulas nationwide. Our overall mission at NBDA® is to help fight the Black Maternal Mortality and Morbidity rate in this country and beyond through our educational development at the NBDA Leadership Academy ™, our Multi-level Doula Training Program. We have a professional database of skilled, trained & certified Doulas through our NBDA® Directory of Black, BIPOC & LGBTQIA Doulas ready to support and become a part of the overall Birth team for birthing BIPOC families and help usher them into a safe & healthy delivery.

Provides opportunities for leadership and connection, champions educational development, and promotes financial support for doulas working in North Carolina.

Birth Partners is a volunteer program at UNC Health Care that provides free, trained, volunteer doulas to all mothers laboring at N.C. Women’s Hospital. This year, they have made a special commitment to UNC Horizons.
