Education and Child Development at PCC

The mission of the Education and Child Development Department is to prepare individuals for careers in early childhood and educational settings for children ages birth through high school.

Program options provide opportunities for careers in birth through middle childhood in home- and center-based licensed early childhood programs, NC PreK programs, and Public School Education Programs. Transfer paths will prepare students in continuing their education in a bachelor’s degree programs focusing on Teacher Licensure or Human Development and Family Studies.

North Carolina Association for Education of Young Children (NCAEYC)
NCAEYC is a proud state affiliate for NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children. As a professional membership association, we work to serve and connect our members to: each other, resources, networks, high quality professional development and advocacy opportunities.
North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE)
NCAE is an all-inclusive Association with all categories of professional school personnel eligible for membership. Teacher assistants are eligible for membership in the North Carolina Educational Support Personnel Association which is directly affiliated with NEA. NCAE is the state’s largest education advocacy organization for public school employees and represents active, retired, and student members.
National Head Start Association (NHSA)
The National Head Start Association (NHSA) is a nonprofit organization committed to the belief that every child, regardless of circumstances at birth, has the ability to succeed in life. NHSA is the voice for more than 1 million children, 245,000 staff and 1,600 Head Start grantees in the United States. Since 1974, NHSA has worked diligently for policy changes that ensure all at-risk children have access to the Head Start model of support for the whole child, the family and the community.
National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC)
The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) is a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to promoting high quality child care by strengthening the profession of family child care for nearly one million paid home-based early learning programs serving almost 40% of the 6.7 million children who receive care from a nonrelative on a regular basis.
