Images and Copyright

Artwork Copyright IconWhen using images, make sure you do not violate copyright law. Using images without proper permission and attribution can lead to fines and lawsuits.

Avoid Copyright Problems:

  1. Limit image searches by License or Usage Rights.
  2. Get images from sites that offer Public Domain or Creative Commons images.
  3. Give proper attribution for the source of the image.
  4. If required, ask for permission from the copyright holder.
  5. Ask a librarian if you aren't sure.

Search Tip:

Many search sites, such as Google or Bing, offer a filter or limit option to help you find images that are safe to use. Look for a limit labeled "Usage Rights" or "License."
