Patti Burke, PhD

Patti and her husband standing next to a horse.

My name is Patti Burke. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes, so Battle of the Books is a wonderful excuse for me to read. I have been a co-coach for BOB for around ten years, and I am excited to be part of this year's coaching team.

I am originally from Pennsylvania, but I have moved many times because my husband was in the Coast Guard. My favorite place to live was Hawaii! I have three children and one grandson. I love animals, and we have an English bulldog and four cats.

In addition to reading, my other hobbies including walking, singing, quilting, and traveling. I've been fortunate enough to travel within the United States and also to Italy, Ireland, Canada, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. I look forward to a fun year of BOB with all of you! Go team!

In this photo, my husband and I are in Dublin, Ireland.

Evan Schmoll, Librarian

Evan and a dolphinHi, I'm Evan Schmoll, the Instruction and Outreach Librarian at PCC. I love to read and am excited to be a part of HBOB because YA is one of my favorite genres to read. In addition to reading, I love to travel, try new restaurants, and hang out with my younger sister. My favorite trip was to the Dominican Republic where I got to swim with dolphins! That's where this picture is from. I'd love to go to Iceland one day.

I was born in Alaska and lived in Rhode Island until I was 12 so I am used to cold weather. Although I've lived in NC for nearly 30 years, I'm still not used to the heat and humidity!

Angela Davis, Librarian

Angela sitting at the top of a Mayan temple in Belize.

My name is Angela Davis, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the team. I know that we are going to have a great time!

I’m a librarian at PCC who loves working with books, databases, and computers. My undergraduate degree is actually in piano, so I spend a lot of time playing piano for musical theater productions and church services. I sometimes joke that I slave over a computer keyboard by day, and a piano keyboard by night.

In this photo, I am sitting on top of a Mayan temple at the Xunantunich archeological site in Belize. I never go anywhere, so this was a huge deal for me!

Leigh Russell, Library Director

Leigh holding an owlMy name is Leigh Russell and I am excited to be a Battle of the Books coach! This is the first time I have been involved with HSBOB and I can’t wait to get started. The Early College High School students and staff are one of my favorite groups to work with and I know we will have a great time.

I am the Library Director at PCC, and yes, I love to read but I have other hobbies as well. My husband, who is also a librarian, and I love music and go to lots of concerts. I enjoy being outside and you will often find me working in my yard, floating in my pool, or paddling in a kayak. I also love to travel and visited Edinburgh, Scotland this summer. The picture you see was taken on Victoria Street which was the main inspiration for Diagon Alley from Harry Potter.
