Literary Criticism

This Research Guide lists library and online resources related to finding literary criticism.

Searching for Print Books

Search the library catalog to find books, videos, and more at PCC Library.

Search with your author's last name and the word criticism:

Hemingway AND criticism

Including the name of your specific work in your search will often bring no results. This does not necessarily mean that a print book does not have information on your work. Look in the index in the back of the actual print book to see if your specific work is listed.

Twayne's Author Series

Each print book in the Twayne's Author Series provides information on a specific author and that author's works. This is sometimes a good place to find literary criticism on lesser-known works that do not appear in database articles.

Search the library catalog with your author's last name and the word Twayne:

Bradbury AND Twayne

Once you have found the Twayne book on your author, look in the index in the back of the actual print book to see if your specific work is listed.

Dictionary of Literary Biography

The Dictionary of Literary Biography set, located in the Library's reference collection on the 2nd floor, contains general  information about authors and their works. Ask for assistance at the service desk if you need help locating this multi-volume set, or finding information on a particular author.

To find out which volumes contain information on a particular author, check the index in the back of the last book in the set.
