The resources below are excellent research starters. They will help you to focus your research on a particular birth custom, region, religious group, etc.

Search Tips!

• Once you've opened the ebook, click the EPUB Full Text link.
• The EPUB format makes it much easier to search this set of books. If that doesn't work for you, try the PDF Full Text link instead.

Browse Volume 1: Birth and Childhood

• Click Contents.
• Click the entry that ends with Volume 1.
• Click the down arrow and scroll through the list of sections in Volume 1.
• Click to view a particular section.

Search for a Keyword

• To search for a particular word, such as a country, custom, etc., click Search Within.
• Type your search term in the box provided, then click the search button. Example: lotus
• All of the pages throughout the three volumes of this encyclopedia that include the term lotus are included in the list that appears under the search box.
• Click View Page to jump to a particular page in the book that mentions your keyword.
• The term you entered will be highlighted within the text.
• The tools for printing, emailing, and citing are located across the top of the window.

• Click Life Stages in the navigation menu.
• Look for sections titled Birth and Family and Parenting.

• You will see a variety of essays that are about Rites of Passage from different religions and cultures. These typically include information about childbirth.. 
• Choose a Rites of Passage essay that interests you. 
• Read through the essay to find information about birth, childbirth, etc.
