ENG 112: Oppression & Oppressors

Use this guide to help you quickly find resources for your annotated bibliography assignment.

Search

Use World History (Gale in Context) or U.S. History (Gale in Context) to find many types of resources that you can use for your annotated bibliography.

  • Click the appropriate database link below: World History or U.S. History.
  • If you are off campus, you will be prompted to log in.

Start your search by entering a keyword or phrase into the search box.

If you need topic ideas, click the Browse Topics link.

Browse Topics Page

  • From the Browse Topics page, you can begin scrolling through the many topics that are listed, or use the drop-down menu to view topics by category.
  • Click a topic link to see a variety of resources on that topic.

When you click a topic link, you may need to scroll down on the page in order to see all of the resources.

Depending on the topic, you will find academic journal articles, primary sources, reference (or encyclopedia) articles, biographies, etc.

Keyword Search Results

If you search using a keyword such as colonialism, you may get too many results as this has been a recurring topic throughout history.

  • Use the tools under FILTER YOUR RESULTS.
  • Click the Subjects tab. Choose from a list of narrower topics such as British, Spanish, or French colonialism.
  • Check the box next to Full Text Documents to remove anything that does not give you the entire article.

Cite, Save, E-mail . . .

Once you open an article, look for the tools that allow you to get a citation, print, e-mail, save, and other options.

Online Access

Paw: Indicates that a password is needed to access the resource from off campus.The username and password to access databases is the same as what you use to log in to myPittCC and Moodle. The username is your entire myPittCC email address (jdstudent000@my.pittcc.edu). 

Community logins are available to Pitt County residents with PCC library cards and others who are enrolled in or are affiliated with PCC programs and continuing education courses. Scroll down and look for the "Community Login" section.
