High-risk behaviors and negative lifestyle choices. Short- and long-term health effects.

  • Body comp:
    • Detail habits and behaviors more commonly seen in the U.S. college student population that can lead to poor body composition.
    • Identify the short and long-term health effects of a body composition that is underweight, overweight, and obese.
  • Fitness:
    • Detail habits and behaviors more commonly seen in the U.S. college student population that encourages sedentary behavior.
    • Identify the short and long-term health effects of a sedentary lifestyle. 

Global Components

  • Body comp:
    • Identify rates of underweight, overweight, and obesity in the U.S. college student population.
    • Compare these rates in the U.S. to your team’s assigned country.
  • Fitness:
    • Identify rates of physical activity and fitness in U.S. college students.
    • Use the ACSM 2022 Fitness Trends from Around the Globe to compare physical activity levels in the U.S. to your assigned country.

Symptoms and/or behavioral indicators that someone may be on the negative end of the wellness spectrum. Tests and/or diagnoses for a person who may be on the negative end of the wellness spectrum.

  • Body comp:
    • Detail symptoms and/or indicators for someone to know if they are struggling with unhealthy body composition. This is not the same as health effects.
    • Describe how a health professional would test/diagnose an unhealthy body composition. 
  • Fitness:
    • Identify indicators that lack of physical activity or fitness is impacting other areas of a person’s life. This is not the same as health effects.
    • Describe how the average person easily test their fitness level.

Global Components

  • Body comp:
    • Describe similarities and differences you see in our diet compared to your team’s assigned country. 
  • Fitness:
    • Describe the similarities and differences of the fitness levels and trends in the U.S. as compared to your team’s assigned country.

Positive lifestyle choices for prevention, and how to seek treatment when needed.

  • Body comp:
    • Identify recommendations and strategies for college students when pursuing or maintaining a healthy body composition.
    • Identify different treatment options and types of qualified professionals if additional help/treatment is needed.
  • Fitness:
    • Identify recommendations and strategies for college students when pursuing and maintaining the recommended physical activity and fitness levels.
    • Identify different guided fitness options, as well as types of qualified professionals if additional help/treatment is needed.

Global Components

  • Body comp:
    • Describe what our country can learn from the culture of your team’s assigned country that could help lower U.S. overweight and obesity rates.
  • Fitness:
    • Describe what the U.S. can learn from the culture of your team’s assigned country that could help increase U.S. physical activity and fitness levels, especially as to how it could help college students.
