Use the information in this guide to find resources for your annotated bibliography assignment. If you need help finding sources, you can always contact a librarian for help.

Search or Browse

If you already know the name of the person you are investigating, type their name and click the search button.

If you need ideas, click Browse People.

Biography (Gale in Context) Search: Enter a Name or Browse a List of People

Browse People

Using the browse page is an excellent way to get ideas about whom you'd like to research.

Choose a Category, then click a person's name.

Find Articles, Bios, etc.

Not only does this database have biographical information, it also includes articles from newspapers, magazines, and journals. 

Click Read More to see the entire featured bio. Click links for Academic Journal articles, newspapers, etc.

Search Tips!

  • Do not use complete sentences. Break your topic down and only enter the important keywords. 
  • Put the person's name in quotes.

Here are some examples of what you can type into the search box:

  • "Thomas Sowell"
  • "Thomas Sowell" AND education
  • "Susan Sontag"
  • Susan Sontag AND art

Too many results?

Once you have a list of results in Summon, use the search filters to refine your search results:

  • Check beside Full Text Online
  • Choose a Content Type: View only articles from journals or magazines, etc.
  • Exclude a Content Type: Exclude book reviews, newspapers, etc. if you don't need it.
  • Choose a Publication Date: Things published in the past year, 3 years, 5 years, etc.

Paw: Indicates that a password is needed to access the resource from off campus.The username and password to access databases is the same as what you use to log in to myPittCC and Moodle. The username is your entire myPittCC email address (jdstudent000@my.pittcc.edu). 

Community logins are available to Pitt County residents with PCC library cards and others who are enrolled in or are affiliated with PCC programs and continuing education courses. Scroll down and look for the "Community Login" section.
