Search Tips

  • Pay attention to the search tips and suggestions provided throughout this guide. These will save you a lot of time.
  • Try searching with both the scientific name and the common name.
    • Examples:
      • "monosodium glutamate" OR MSG
      • "laughing gas" OR "nitrous oxide"
      • tocopherol OR "vitamin E"
  • Some compounds are known by several different names and this can get confusing. If you are not sure if you are researching the correct compound, ask your teacher right away for clarification.
  • If you are having trouble using any of the resources listed, citing, or finding a piece of information, contact your librarian!
