PCC Financial Aid

Your PCC Financial Aid Counselor

All Pitt Community College students are assigned financial aid counselors regardless of whether or not you apply for financial aid. Your financial aid counselor can answer any questions you have regarding financial aid and help you complete your FAFSA and other financial aid processes. When you have questions about financial aid, you should contact your financial aid counselor since they have access to your financial aid records and is a expert in financial aid policies. Financial aid counselors are assigned to students alphabetically based on last names.

PCC Self-Service Financial Aid

Another financial aid resource available to students at Pitt Community College is Self-Service Financial Aid. Self-Service Financial Aid allows students to:

  • Look up the status of their financial aid

PCC Student Academic Progress Policy

PCC’s Student Academic Progress (SAP) policy has 3 components:

  1. Students must pass 67% of all credits attempted. For example: A student who has attempted 24 credit hours must have passed at least 16.08 credits: 24 X 67% = 16.08. This includes all credit hours on the PCC transcript, whether or not the student received financial aid while attempting those credits.  It also includes all transfer credits accepted by PCC (transfer work is included in both the credits attempted and credits completed calculation).

  2. Students may only receive aid for up to 150% of the attempted credit hours for their academic program. For example, if your program requires 60 credit hours to complete, you may receive financial aid for up to 90 attempted hours (60 X 150% = 90).

  3. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA based on the number of credit hours they have attempted.

Other Important PCC Financial Aid Policies

  1. Financial Aid will only pay for courses that are part of your degree program.
    • This means the courses that are on your program's degree plan (plan of study or curriculum sheet). That is why it is so important that you plan your courses based on the course requirements on your degree plan.
    • This also means that if you decide to change your major you must complete a change of major form in order for financial aid to pay for classes in your new major. You should contact your academic advisor if you need to complete a change of major form.

  2. Financial Aid only pays for you to attempt the same course twice.
    • If you need to take a course a third time or more, you will be required to pay out of pocket for that class.
    • For example, if Student A takes ENG-111 in Fall and withdraws from the class and then takes ENG-111 in Spring and earns an 'F' in the course, Student A will be required to pay out of pocket to retake ENG-111 a third time.

  3. If you are receiving financial aid, you should consult with your financial aid counselor before officially withdrawing from a course to ensure that withdrawing from the course will not negatively impact your financial aid award.
